    Description

    i
An Antique, Mid to Late 1800's, Original Paving Stone From Market Street In Corning, New York. Marked: Gregory, Corning, NY, The Best By Test.
Historic Market Street in Corning, NY was originally paved end to end with these brick like paving stones produced by the Gregory Factory located right here in Corning. With the advent of automobiles and a need for a smoother surface, with less upkeep, the original roadway was torn up and replaced with asphalt. Very few of the original paving stones survived. Many were discarded while others ended up in local gardens, driveways and walk ways.
This paving stone is in overall very good condition with no cracks or breaks. There is the expected wear from use with some chipped corners and edges, see the photos. The paving stone measures 8 5/8" across, 3 7/8" wide, 3 1/2" high. It weighs in at 9 pounds 8 ounces before packing.
